It all depends on what your are looking for and what your needs are. Specialty stores may offer a wide selection of a certain type of flooring such as carpet or hardwood and may offer skilled installers for the project.

However, they may not be the best choice if you are looking to do this yourself and they may or may not have all the supplies needed to complete the project and are less likely to have their services catered to such an individual. Mass merchandiser or do-it-yourself centers on the other hand are a perfect choice for the self-installer. They generally have all the supplies, tools and even educational material or classes needed to complete the project. They are also a good choice for those looking for installers, but may be limited on the selection unless you are looking at special ordering a product. They typically do everything from start to finish including measuring and installing the product.

Factory direct is also another choice for the individual or those using an installer. These types of locations offer fewer services but generally have a good selection of products and have very competitive prices in comparison. So whether you or handy or not making the choice to install new flooring is a large undertaking and should not be taken lightly, so make sure to do your homework.
