Work From Home Jobs

Work from home jobs are one of the most sought after things on the Internet today. If you are serious about working from home then there are a few things you need to know up front. One is to never pay a fee for the prospect of a job, unless it is a small fee or except those you would expect to pay for any other type of job, such as for a background check. Also forget about getting rich tomorrow. If the job is too good to be true it probably is. Lastly be prepared to do your homework and research to find a legitimate paying employment opportunity.

A few things you need to consider or do before just jumping in and starting your search. One is decide what type of job you want and are qualified to work. Make a list of your skills and experience. Second get your resume, cover letter and references ready for the types of jobs you are going to be applying for. Third, be prepared to be tested, many work at home candidates have to take tests, or fill out questionnaires along with submitting an application and resume. 

Another thing to consider is whether or not you want to work as an independent contractor or as the employee of a company. Many companies only offer work as independent contractors but some do offer work as an employee. Being independent you can use a lot of things as tax write-off, such as your Internet and phone costs, depreciating a portion of your home or computer. The disadvantage is the added paperwork or cost of an accountant to do all this. Another disadvantage is the lack of benefits, such as insurance or 401k. As an employee you may qualify for the typical benefits such as insurance, vacation or pension/401k. However, they may have a limited package or they may not offer a package to at home workers. These are all things to consider when looking for or before accepting a position for working from home.

Legitimate Work from Home Jobs

That being said there are jobs out there for those wanting to work from home. One of the biggest areas is for phone work; doing such things as customer service, call center reps, technical support and sales. You need to be able to have a few things to work most of these jobs, but for many they are not difficult to find. One is a quiet location to receive or make calls, another is a phone, usually with unlimited long distance, sometimes headsets are required and a computer with the minimum capabilities required by the company. Other than that you are ready to go. Many of these jobs are hourly, but some are commission or productivity bases. Be certain what the pay/wage is prior to making a commitment.

Another type of job that is prevalent for work at home individuals are writing. Today many are being paid for writing articles and even blogs. Pay varies but can be lucrative depending on your writing skills and ability. One of the most beneficial aspects of this job is that it is great for those that cannot provide for a quiet setting required for doing phone work.

Another great option for those that lack the quiet required for phone jobs is transcription. There are all kinds of transcription jobs available, for medical, legal and even general. Generally this does not require certification, but experience is helpful and often expected, although not always required. Legal and medical usually require certification and generally like for the individual to have experience when working from home.

Data entry is probably one of the easiest to do but because of this it is also one of the hardest to find and lowest paying.

There is also the route of creating your own web properties and getting money from the ads that people click on from them. This is one of the best work from home jobs because it gives you the opportunity to earn an income that will continue to grow. If you are interested in doing this you may have found plenty of people out their touting get rich quick schemes. These are just a few of the types of jobs available for those looking to work from home. It is not impossible but like any job search it does take time and effort to land a position.
