Name Tags

At any given social function, retailer, local grocery store, hotels, casinos, what have you, there will always be a need to call someone by their first name in order to positively communicate. Name tags are what makes it possible to assemble a friendly environment, as well as a comfortable one in many given situations.

Some would say that a name tag is just a trivial requirement by employers or superiors, but it is quite more than that. Which would you prefer, a business that has artistic and lively looking name tags designed to catch the customer's eye or a ripped piece of paper with a name crudely scribbled upon it?

People don't realize that these little pieces of flair can change a lot in how a customer views your business as well as your social outlook. How are you going to choose the name tag(s) that will separate your business from others? What sort of tags are offered out in the world? These questions will be touched on in the following to give an idea of where to start and where to look.

Name Tags - A Variety

There are several ways to go about purchasing name tag(s) that can say the most about your business. We've all at some time or another worn the throw away paper tags that stick to your shirt with the "HELLO! My name is," text. These are fine, they get the job done without going overboard. However, when looking to buy name tags for your business, you will want something that is more permanent and that the customer can clearly read, as well as remember. Most of these tags are plastic, and in some other cases the more expensive light metal. Both of these materials are where you would want to steer your attention when deciding to make a purchase for your name tags.

Nowadays, most websites or proprietors of name tag manufacturing go by your personal specifications. If you were to choose the metal these would have to be custom name tags that would involve engraving each name ultimately making the transaction more costly. The plastic tags are the most commonly used on the market, but that doesn't mean they're sub-par, it's just a matter of not making them look run of the mill. When choosing the plastic make, be sure that it jumps out at whoever will end up reading it; add colors, designs, and for a few extra bucks have your website in plain view, but not so flamboyant that it looks like a bogus advertisement.

You should also keep the option of magnetic name tags open so that they are easier for your employees to wear and you will be less likely to have many of these lost because it will make them more difficult for the wearer to have them brush off of there clothing.

There are a few other types of name tags worth mentioning such as reusable tags and photo ID's. The reusable tags are quite a convenience to the buyer because if a dozen people are laid off for whatever reason, you won't have to go and buy a whole new set. The reusable tags come with software that allows you to print whatever you want, as well as a small kit including magnets and pins for fastening to your shirt or lapels. The photo IDs can be an excellent addition to your business. Photo ID name tags are used in several professional settings and are also required by some more secure buildings to even gain entry. Whatever the case, the photo IDs are another form of name tag that you can shop around for depending on your situation.

Buying Name Tags

You will definately want to think about the longevity of the name tags. If you want them to be around for a long time you should think about getting some nice name tags. If you have a high turn over then getting some name tags that are more easily customized would be a good choice. If you are having a short event that is somewhat formal then some form of cardstock that has been printed on and cut may be best.

In retrospect, make sure that you get a sample of the name tags that you plan on purchasing  to make sure that they best fit your business needs (or whatever else you need them for) because there are a lot of companies out there with false promises of good quality and prices. One can end up paying top dollar for a piece of brittle plastic with misspellings and abysmal looking fonts.

Very helpful hub. The company I used to work for used a Brother P-Touch Label Maker to make name tags. They were good in combination with a badge and pin (like supermarkets use).
